Job Summary:
The Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division (PHND) at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Postdoctoral Fellow for a two-year, fixed-term, renewable appointment based at IFPRI's headquarters in Washington, DC. Under the supervision of the PHND Director, the successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from IFPRI and partner organizations on the development and implementation of a research program on enhancing food safety and nutrition in value chains as part of the CGIAR Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) program. This position is based at IFPRI headquarters located in Washington, D.C.
Please note that Postdoctoral Fellow appointments at IFPRI have a maximum term of three (3) years, inclusive of any approved appointment extensions.
Essential Duties:
• Work with a team of colleagues from PHND and the Markets, Trade and Institutions Division (MTID) to develop and implement a new portfolio of research on leveraging value chains to improve food safety and nutrition
• Work with the team on developing the nutrition component of selected value chain projects, and on the design and implementation of field research activities, data entry and analysis, and publication of findings
• Engage with a variety of stakeholders, including donors, partners from other CGIAR centers, other partner institutions, and value chain actors to stimulate new research and investments in value chains for nutrition
• Analyze data from primary research, write up results and publish in peer-reviewed journals and other publication outlets within IFPRI and the wider scientific community
• Work with colleagues on research proposal development, as needed
Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in International Nutrition, Epidemiology, Public Health, Program Evaluation, or related discipline
• Demonstrated ability to design and manage quantitative research studies, including design of field work, training of enumerators, supervision of data entry, data analysis and writing and publication of results
• Demonstrated ability to publish in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams with a variety of stakeholders on multi-sectoral projects
• Knowledge of and experience with a range of evaluation methods and designs
• Experience in communicating results in different multicultural and multi-stakeholder settings
• Ability to multi-task, work in a dynamic environment, and take initiatives to resolve issues
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Demonstrated computer and data analysis literacy (PC and Microsoft Applications; and STATA)
• Willingness to travel extensively as required
• Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred qualifications
• Familiarity with agriculture and nutrition literature and research
• Experience working with economists
